Dr. LaBreck’s extraordinary journey, coupled with her extensive professional acumen, fuels her mission to ignite inspiration and foster the belief that “Sometimes in life, adversity and barriers can become a pathway to opportunity” which led to President Barack Obama’s announcement in 2013, his intent to nominate Dr. LaBreck as Commissioner of the Rehabilitation Services Administration. (RSA) within the United States Department of Education. In August of 2013, LaBreck was confirmed by the United States Senate as the first African American Commissioner for RSA in its one-hundred-year history to provide national leadership to assist state and other agencies providing vocational rehabilitation services (VR) to individuals with disabilities to maximize their employment, independence, and integration into the community and workforce.
